HISTORY OF CCKSF

On November 9th, 1987 an application was submitted to the Federal Department of Industry, Science and Technology in Ottawa. This application was the final stage in a dream that began years before by three men with a vision. The undaunted and tireless efforts of Master Sunny Tang, Master Eddie Wu and Master Philip Mo are legendary. Their bold and sometimes risky initiatives has given the CCKSF the trust, leadership and respect of all who have come into its circle. Today that vision is alive and well as the Canadian Chinese Kuo Shu (Martial Arts) Federation prepares itself for the challenges of the 21st Century.

By the time of the official approval of the charter on September 29th, 1993, the CCKSF had already made its debut.

Under the skilful directorship of Master Tang, Master Wu and Master Mo the membership in the CCKSF had grown to over five thousand individuals representing over fifty clubs and organizations. In the eight years since the founding of the CCKSF the organization has strived to become the foremost representative of the Chinese Martial Arts in Canada. Among it's many accomplishments was the joining of the Eastern United States Wu Shu Federation to the CCKSF; giving the CCKSF the distinction of being one of the largest Martial Arts Federations in North America. As of November 1995, we have conducted our 8th annual tournament which now draws competitors from all over Canada and the United States. In 1992 Master Sunny Tang, Master Eddie Wu & Mr. Steve Ang met Mr. Zhang Yao Deng, the seceretray-general of the International Wushu Federation in New York, and after lengthy discussions decided to organise an official Canadian team to take part in the World Competition, does resulting the formation of United Wushu Federation of Canada in sending Team Canada to the World Champion in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1993. The development of our annual Master's Exhibition has been a huge success and has seen such world renowned masters as Grand Master Lily Lau from California, Grand Master Moy Yat from New York and motion picture star Grand Master Pan Quing Fu from China. The CCKSF has held numerous seminars and workshops and has participated in many worthy fund raising functions such as the annual Dragon Boat Festival, United Way's Walk a Thon, Chinese home for the aged fund raising drive and more.

In 1995, the organization underwent sweeping changes as a new administration was elected to replace the outgoing board of directors.

In it's mandate, the new executive has charged itself with the task of bringing the Federation into the next century with a series of bold new efforts. Among these will be a new membership recruitment system, a modern and up to date communications system, a computer team to coordinate all CCKSF business and correspondence as well as our own web site on the world wide Internet.

The future of the CCKSF will be an exciting evolution. If you are not a member of the Federation now maybe this would be a good time to fill out an application and join us as we continue our strive for excellence.
